It was organized in New York City in December 1834, but was short-lived because no specific purpose was determined. The Virginia Society of Surgeon - Dentists became the third dental society in 1842, and the Cincinnati Association of the Surgeons and Dentist was founded on January 6, 1844. So it was the Mad River Association that brought dentists together in the Ohio River Valley for the first time in its history in May 1887. Annual meetings were held in Cincinnati until May 18, 1987, when it postponed its May session until October, which brought together members of three other dental chambers in Ohio and one in Virginia.
In the aftermath of the Civil War, Montgomery County dentists helped form a state corporation, and the state was divided into eight district corporations. The District Companies were the Ohio State Dental Society, which was founded in Columbus on June 26 - 27, 1866. On October 2, 1922, it was formalized and changed the name of the Miami Valley D Dental Society to Dayton Dentist Society. Although it became a "state component" only in 1909, the Dayton dentist was active in state groups from the beginning.
Dr. Kneisly's contributions as a naturopath surpassed those of all other members of the Dayton Dental Society, "the Dayton Dental Society bulletin said in a letter to the group honoring its president emeritus.
Dr. Watt was elected president and became owner and editor of the West Register of Dental Companies, and he adopted the name Dr. Kneisly, a nod to his father's name. He was responsible for the Dayton Dinal Society Bulletin, which reached its peak under his leadership in the 1950s and 1955.
In 1914, Dr. Kneisly raised $2,400 and founded the Dayton Dinal Society, the first dental society in the United States. In 1915 he began to take an active part in the organization of dentistry, and in 1916 he was a member of the Dayton Society censor committee.
The Mad River Valley Association had about 20 members who met in Dayton on the banks of the Great Miami River, the navigable Ohio River. Most of them came from Cincinnati and settled in the area where four streams converged and discharged into the great Miami River. In 1850, the Union had 8 000 inhabitants, and Dayton was well above the average, with 1 per 1000 inhabitants.
The community that dominated the Miami Valley has always managed to be in a key position that has allowed it to gain and maintain a key position in Ohio's history. In 1935, he was president of the Ohio Dental Society, and it was during his 36-year tenure that he presented the Ohio D Dental Law to the state legislature and enacted it after months of campaigning. He was a delegate to the American Dentists Association and was elected president of the Ohio State Dents Association in 1957. One of those who left a legacy to compare himself to was the president of the Ohio Society in 1935.
His decisions influenced the formation of the Mad River Valley Dental Association, which actually emerged from his office during his tenure.
Although the first dental school in Bainbridge was only 75 miles away, in Dayton in the mid-19th century there were three dentists who were actively practicing before the first products of Bain Bridge School arrived in our community. During this time, we had many traveling dentists coming to the city to treat patients in addition to our own local dentist, Dr. John E. Clements.
