“--There is no recess time for the children after lunch --There is no auditorium for the school yet they've allocated dollars to renovate the administrative offices --The teachers and staff rely heavily on candy and sweets for behavior reinforcement . --The learning materials my children come home with are not up to their grade level, nor has it been covered in class that day. --I don't like the way school trip functions are handled. Specifically how and when parents are notified (if at all). In spite of this, the teachers are in fact very good in my opinion. Most seem kind of young, but they're motivated and under the watch of good leadership.”

“I was a sub for this school for 2 months, I enjoyed working with the kids and the faculty and staff. It was a pleasant and humbling experience. The faculty and staff care really do care about the students, I would recommend this school.”

“My son went to The Dayton Academy in Kindergarten. I have been teaching at this school for 5 wonderful years. I would recommend this school to anyone. I have seen staff come and go over the years. I can say that this year the teachers at this school gives 100%. I am grateful that I was a part of this school, even though this is my last year. I loved every second that I taught here. I can go to sleep at night knowing that I have planted seeds in the lives of my students. Even when I had difficult students, I was able to communicate with their parents. “This school is not safe! my child attended that school an was bullied everyday by just terrible kids! Academics are not leadiing,if u want your child to have a good headstart then this isn't the school!”

“The school is a joke. There are two big issues with this school. Parents and the administration. Parents who complain about teachers calling everyday are so far out touch. If your kid has some type of home training you would most likely not receive a call everyday. Some kids (NOT all) at Dayton Academy have zero home training. As a direct result the teacher spend more time on discipline instead on teaching the class. The administration needs to take a stand. Dayton Academy goal should be a quality education and not a skating through the year scare of parents who don t care what kind of problem their child is on a daily basis. If you send your child to this school or teach at this school good luck and may God be with you. Parents please teach your children how to act and take responsibility for there actions.”

“Since Mr.Wycoff has been in office at The Dayton Academy the staff and students are more excited than ever about this new school year. I for one have nothing but positive things to say about this school. There is a dedicated staff that is here to challenge the students and have them reach for higher goals. I would recommend this school to any student/parent that is ready to step up to the plate in learning. I know this information because I am a current teacher at this school, and am proud to serve the families of the Dayton area.”

“My child attendend the The Dayton Academy for the 2004=2005 school year. They have an excellent academic program and a very hands-on, enthusiastic leader, Emory Wyckoff. I like the way they involve me in my son's day by keeping me notified of his positive and negative behavior. Ms. Milliner was great as his 5th grade teacher. She was extremely dedicated to my son's success.”

“My child started off going to a public school and I transferred him to Dayton Academy. BIG MISTAKE! My son completed grades 1-3 at this school. It was a big challenge because I had to stay in the school and talk to the principal on down to the teacher EVERYDAY. The teachers' were not educated enough and didn't have enough patience for kids. They called me at work EVERYDAY. My son had a learning problem but they would not help me, all they would do was call me at work constantly to tell me that my son would talk and get out of line. My rating for this school year,2004-2005 is OKAY, but they switch teachers on the kids too much. The students can't get used to their teachers'. Kolisia Ward”

“I was a former student at The Dayton Academy. I attened this school from 2nd to 6th grade. I believe that this school was very effective and played a major role in my success. I now attend Stivers School for the Arts which is one of the most challenging schools in the area. I am advanced and ahead of most student in my grade. Although the school has undergone many principal changes they have currently hired a new principal in the 2004-2005 school year. His name is Emory Wyckoff. He is here for the long haul. He is a dedicated hard working leader who has made many changes. I would definitely reccommend this school for students in any grade. -McKenzee Moon”

“My children have been in the school since it opened. The first couple of years were great. The teachers my children initialy had were great. Teachers like Ms. Kreitz, Mrs. Moon, and Ms. Lykins were great. They were understanding, patient and challenged my children. They seemed limited though by the school rules. As the years went on I found the teachers to not only act like the children but they did'nt seem to like their job. Many things changed it seemed. They seem to worry more about how straight their lines were in the hall than how to help the children with understanding the lesson. There were too many changes and too many principals. My children were good students, had good grades, and did'nt like going to school. I have taken them out of the school in search of a better education for now I will home school.”

“My son was in the school when they first opened and the first year was great, however, the teachers are childish and do not have respect for the students and neither do the students have respect for the teachers. The work was not challenging and when he went to another school he was very behind. There was very litte parent participation and the whole learning atmosphere was not a positive one. I would not recommend anyone to send their children to this school.”

“I have two children in the 6th grade. I switched from Dayton Public Schools to Dayton Academy and I was truly disappointed, teachers were very childish and approached alot of problems like children. The work that was assigned was great and I believe it is great challenge for them. The teachers attitudes were unacceptable they act one way in front of the parents and do another way in front of the students.”
