Most recently it was the sight of the 1995 Dayton Accords, where a peace settlement between Bosnians and Serbs resulted in decreased ethnic violence in Bosnia, but the small city lays claim to many other big events and ideas. The Wright Brothers, for example, were born here and developed thier ideas for heavier-than-air human flight here first before testing them in Kitty Hawk, NC. The National Aviation Museum, The National Air Force Museum, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and the Wright B. Flyer. Also, the Dayton Air Show is one of the cities biggest events and draws the aviation crowd from across the nation. Other city attractions include the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the Dayton Visual Arts Center, SunWatch Indian Village, Second Street Market, the Paul Lawerence Dunbar Home, and the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center.
As far as neighborhoods go, the Oregon historic district is a must. The neighborhood, the oldest in Dayton, dates back to 1829 and you can find antique shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, comedy clubs, and architecture unlike anywhere else in the city.
For ethnic foods, El Meson is an excellent option for Latin American food, Abuelo’s Mexican food embassy for Mexican, the Dublin Pub for an Irish pub with Irish grub, and Ajanta vegetarian and Indian dishes.
